The Space In Between

The Space In Between

the space in between

gap in the clouds

break in the storm

midday naps

leaves falling

the space in between

letting go

mountains climbed

branches broken

waves crashed

the space in between

demolition

counts between thunder

fire to ash

morning dew melting

the space in between

head to heart

hurt to healing

brick to mortar

sprout to growth

the space in between

I wrote this poem a few years ago and I find myself returning to it during this season of life. I am learning that life is filled with highs and lows but it is the daily process that matters most. In the sports realm this idea carries over quite well because as athletes, we will practice for months or years just to compete for and win a championship. When we are preparing for the big moment, what does the space in between look like? Are we sitting around waiting for the outcome or are we enjoying the “counts between thunder, the midday naps, the growth, and the healing?”

Life continues to remind me that the years, months, days, hours or minutes in between tasks, between achievements, between goals, and between big moments, are where we must learn to find joy, gratitude, and fulfillment.
