I try to remind athletes that champions are made in the offseason. In season, everyone is working hard. Everyone is going to weights. Every athlete in the nation has practice. Every coach in the nation is trying to get the most out of their athletes. Every athlete is being reminded to eat healthy and to sleep 8-10 hours in season, but what about in the offseason? The offseason is where we set ourselves apart.
The same applies to life: what we do when no one is watching or holding us accountable is what will set us apart. Show up to work 15 minutes early every day for a year. Exercise 3x per week for a year. Read 10 minutes every day for a year. Training in the offseason does not have to be 3-5 hours every day. It can be a small commitment of 30 min – 1 hour per day. Consistency is what the offseason is all about; what can we commit to today that will help us one year from now? What are we doing every day that will help us achieve our goals 6-12 months from now? Champions are made in the offseason.
